RealmWalker Progress Report

I honestly don’t remember what the last bit of news was that I told you all on RealmWalker, so here’s a summary.

  • What had originally started as a stand-alone book (just titled RealmWalker) will now be a series of three books. The first is RealmWalker: New Beginnings. The second will be RealmWalker: Anchor. I don’t have a title for the third one yet.
  • I have started work on RealmWalker: Anchor, but there are substantial changes that will be happening to that storyline.
  • I just finished a round of edits on New Beginnings. I will be sending it back to my editor tomorrow afternoon.

I think that covers it. I’m so excited about this book/series. I love the story and I can’t wait to share it with you!

Oops

I guess it’s kind of obvious I’ve fallen off of the Ultimate Blog Challenge wagon. I’ve been trying to decide if I should put up some posts I have in reserve to catch up, just pick up and start now through the end of the month, or set a schedule and consistently stick to that (I’m thinking a couple posts a week).

I could list all the reasons why I haven’t been posting, but it all boils down to one thing: I’m in a bit of a funk. I haven’t done much of anything, except work on a baby blanket, for a while. I need to get my act together and get back to work. Literally and figuratively.

Edits on New Beginnings have stalled too. There are other things that I want to get started on. That’s where the “literally” comes in.

And it starts now.

Clouds Beget Clouds

Today is quite a bit cooler than the past few days have been. It’s cloudy. ANd in looking out my office window, I’m reminded of the clouds in a couple photos I’ve taken over the years. This particular one is from a bridge overlooking White River, just outside of Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

I like it for a number of reasons. I like how everything reflects in the water. I like that we were able to stop in the middle of the bridge on a rare afternoon with little traffic. I like that it’s Eureka Springs, somewhere I would really like to be right now.

I am aware it’s a repeat that I’ve used on this blog before. I don’t think I’ve ever said why I like it, though. (Plus, I’m working on edits for RealmWalker: New Beginnings, so I wanted to post but I needed something easy-ish at the moment.)

I’m Back (I Think)

I did not intend to disappear for the majority of May. Especially since I’d had a good month with the Ultimate Blog Challenge for April.

After three years of compensating for the problems with my left leg, my right lower back decided to give out. I’ve been dealing with that since the end of April. It got better, then it got worse again. And now it’s getting better.

It’s a long process, especially when you consider that I’ve dealt with back issues since I sprained my lower back in 2005-ish.

But that’s in the past. I’m able to be at my computer again. Yes, I have the WordPress app on my phone, but I have trouble blogging from that. There were a couple days when I slept downstairs because I couldn’t make it up to my bedroom. You don’t realize just how much you use your back for until you kind of can’t. Even when I could make it up to my bedroom, I couldn’t sit in my office chair at my desk, so no computer work.

And now here I am!

I didn’t sit idle, though. I have a baby blanket almost done and another one I need to do. And in between that, I need to finish converting RealmWalker: New Beginnings from first person to third because the editor at my publisher-of-choice asked to see the whole thing.

Here’s to good health to you all! Happy creating.

Is Your Mood Related to Your Creative Output?

This isn’t a clickbait title. I’m genuinely curious. Is your mood related to your creative output — or lack thereof?

I keep getting reminded that mine is.

Let me explain.

I finished the draft of RealmWalker (now RealmWalker: New Beginnings) on Sunday. I took a break on Monday. I started planning the next project (RealmWalker: Anchor) yesterday. I crocheted some both days, but I wasn’t actively writing.

Today, that manifested in my mood.

It’s odd, but that’s the way it works for me, especially when I’ve been working hard on a project the way I was and then basically quit cold turkey.

What about you?

Happy creating.

Next Project

This is partly my mom’s fault. And mostly mine.

This notebook pictured is going to be my project notebook for the next project. So what is it?

A sequel.

RealmWalker is apparently going to be a trilogy (if not more). The one I just finished is RealmWalker: New Beginnings. The next one will be RealmWalker: Anchor.

This notebook will hold:

  • Character sketches.
  • Lists of all characters – main, minor, and walk-ons.
  • Synopsis.
  • Timeline.
  • Plot outline (different from timeline).
  • Major details.
  • Minor details that are easy to forget.

So I will be editing New Beginnings and writing Anchor. I’ve used this kind of working habit on different projects before and I quite like it.

Oh. And, no, it won’t take me five years to finish this one. I’ll be working on it much more consistently.

What about you? What are you working on?

Happy creating.
