This week, I have two things in one post. They’re not really related, but I’m going to include them in one post anyway.
First, the ear savers.
A friend sent me a link to what were called “mask companions.” It’s a knit or crocheted strip with buttons attached at either end. The elastic from the mask’s loop over the buttons instead of the wearer’s ears and prevent the ears from becoming sore or irritated.
I never found an actual pattern, so I winged it. I have three sizes. The number given is small with medium and large in parentheses.
I hesitate to call this a pattern. It’s more of a recipe. Here’s what I came up with.
Ear Savers

Supplies
- Size H 5.0mm crochet hook
- Worsted weight yarn
- Tapestry needle
- 2 buttons
Instructions
Chain 20 (28, 35)
Double crochet (DC) in each chain across to the last chain
Work 6 DC in the last chain. Work three on top, rotate your work, and work three on the bottom.
DC in each stitch across, using the unworked loops of your starting chain, the last chain
Work 5 DC in the last stitch.
Connect with slip stitch to the beginning chain 3 and fasten off.
Weave in ends and attach buttons.
Adventures in Blogging
This week’s post is, admittedly, a little late. I’m in the process of moving my website too a new host, for a variety of reasons.
I made a mistake. I changed an important setting too early. That resulted in my website being offline for a couple days. If you tried to access it during that time, I’m sorry.
The problem was extended because I had to wait a full 24 hours before I could change it back.
Oops!!
The important thing is, I did get it changed back. I’ll let you know when the host change is complete.
Meanwhile
If you make any of the ear savers, tag me in any pictures you post on Instagram. I’m @jen.nipps on IG.
